Duotone Unit D/LAB 2023

The weight and stiffness are two of the most important properties that determine the performance of a wing. For both of these factors, Duotone is setting new standards and achieving previously unprecedented levels of performance with the UNIT DLAB. These significant improvements have been made possible through the use of a newly developed material.

Specifically, the material is called Aluula, which has already proven itself in the production of kites in a very short amount of time and is now being used in wings as well.

The UNIT DLAB sets new standards in terms of performance, weight, and handling. As previously mentioned, the central point that sets the UNIT apart from traditional wings is the newly developed material, Aluula. Aluula replaces the previously used Dacron as the main material for the strut and front tube.

There is a fundamental difference between these two materials, as Dacron is made of woven polyester fibers, while Aluula is a welded laminate of Dyneema fabric. This creates a kind of composite material that allows the design team to drastically reduce weight while enabling previously unattainable stiffness.

Aluula is significantly more tear-resistant and stiffer, but weighs only about half as much as conventional Dacron. With this fundamental weight advantage, reinforcements can be selectively integrated into the wing's frame, allowing the UNIT DLAB to have 50% higher stiffness while still providing a 15% weight savings. The result is an unparalleled driving experience - more direct, powerful, and precise than anything previously available.

With no other wing can you fly in less wind, and no other wing will make maneuvers as easy as with the UNIT DLAB. Uncompromisingly, it is probably the best wing currently available.
