The overdrive is Severne's freerace sail: its features are similar to Severne's racing model: the Mach. But with a less wide mast cover (33% narrower) and easier & lighter to use. The overdrive is therefore a suitable racing sail for many slalommers and freeracers who want to go fast with a slightly lighter and more user-friendly racing sail. The narrowing in the mast trunk also makes water starting a lot easier and lighter: a lot less water enters the mast cover.
The Severne Overdrive 2021: lighter and more 'high aspect' The overdrive is Severne's freerace sail: its features are similar to Severne's racing model: the Mach. Batten and design The smaller sizes (the 4.6 & 5.5) have six slats to increase control for extreme conditions, sizes from 5.5 have 7 slats. The three cambers create a nice and deep profile, giving the sail a very accurate and stable pressure point. This offers you a controlled and comfortable feeling while sailing.
Just like the Mach4, the overdrive has also been further developed in recent years: often the outline of the Mach4 is used as a starting point for the Overdrive. The newer Overdrive sails are therefore slightly more 'high aspect': this means that the sail is slightly longer and higher and slightly less wide. The boom length is about 10 centimeters shorter than with many other freerace sails: this results in a lighter and nicer feeling while sailing: you have less pressure on the back hand and pulling it perfectly to use the sail as efficiently as possible is a bit easier.
masts The OverDrive M4 can be used on both RDM masts and SDM masts.
